Crown Point Girls Wrestling traveled down to Plymouth, Indiana, for the IHSAA Regional Competition. In order to compete at regionals, wrestlers had to place in top two at sectionals. The team came down with 12 competitors, ready to wrestle.
The team had six girls punch their ticket to State. Most notably, having three girls become regional champions in their respective weight classes.

At 100 pounds, sophomore Jaila Powers got second place. Powers is currently ranked fifth in the state. Powers traveled down to state, but sadly did not place in her weight class.
At 120 pounds, sophomore Annalise Neal came in second place. Neal is ranked eleventh in the state.
“My first feeling after qualifying was that I was really happy for myself because last year I didn’t make it,” said Neal. “I also felt excitement for the future and going to state.”
Neal went on to make more memories at state and ended her season sixth in the state.
At 125 pounds, sophomore Helene Papadakis came in fourth place, qualifying to wrestle at state. Papadakis is currently ranked ninth in the state.
Papadakis ended up making even more memories at State, ending her season coming eighth in the state.
At 130 pounds, sophomore Ava Strayer won her final match, ending it by pinning her opponent. Strayer is currently ranked first in the state.
“I know a lot of people believe I’m overhyped, so I’m excited to prove them wrong,” Strayer said.
Strayer did end up proving her doubters wrong and won the state championship. This is her second state championship title, ending her season undefeated.
At 140 pounds, senior Kylie Benoit ended her day as regional champion.
”I am so excited to compete with my teammates at state,” said Benoit.
Benoit ended her individual season coming in third at state.
At 170 pounds, junior Jayda Miller won her final match of the day with a pin in the final bout, with only seconds to spare. This is Miller’s first year wrestling, having just started conditioning this summer. Miller is currently ranked ninth in the state. Regional champion is not the only accolade Miller is leaving the season with, as she went on to place second at the state competition.
Crown Point Girls Wrestling ended their individual season winning Regionals, and ultimately placing second in team points at state.
