Pro: Going on a vacation during summer break can give an individual memories that they will never forget. Whether the trip is with family or friends, vacations are a great way to escape the mundane day-to-day loop individuals tend to get stuck in. While staying home over break allows one to see their friends, the weekends during the school year also allow for that. Additionally, most trips do not last all summer, so there should also be plenty of time for an individual to see their friends at home during summer break. Even a simple weekend trip away can refresh an individual and fulfill their summer. One will never regret taking a vacation, but one may regret staying home all summer. “I think going on vacation is better because you can make more memories and the weather is warmer in other places,” sophomore Addison Marcinkewicz said. Going on a trip during the few months of rest from rigorous education is overall the better choice.
Con: Going on a vacation over the summer can be fun. However, is it worth it? Taking a summer vacation could mean not having a job or could lead to spending all your savings. Students can not spare the time during the school year to have a job, so summer is their chance to have one. A lot of students spend their summer making money that will last them through the following school year. Most summer jobs do not allow one to take off much time, and if they do, then that person would miss out on a whole week or more of crucial pay. Staying in town also gives teens the chance to spend time with friends and make memories that last a lifetime. Summertime gives these teenagers the opportunity to bond and strengthen friendships. Going on vacations can infringe on this time and leave teens feeling distant from others. All in all, teens can still relax and enjoy summer while abstaining from vacation.
“I do not think teens should be going on vacation because it takes time away from their friends, and if they have a job, they are not making money during that time,” sophomore Harris Tran said.
