For high school students, summer break consists of ten consecutive weeks of freedom–freedom from responsibilities, freedom from due dates and overall freedom from the normal day-to-day pressures of teenage life. However, these weeks should be utilized for more than simple tranquility. These weeks should be utilized as an opportunity to build both productivity and one’s resume.
Some students prefer to use these weeks as an internship opportunity. Over the school year, students are expected to learn from a book and to come to an understanding regarding their future based off of the turning of pages. Summer offers an opportunity for these students to experience first-hand their career interests.
Other students prefer to focus on paid work. Many students like to take advantage of the summer time to make the money they will use over the course of the school year. These ten weeks provide the perfect chance to work as often as possible, without the concerns of attending classes or completing school work.
Finally, students may employ the summer to complete online classes, in order to get ahead in their schoolwork. Crown Point offers opportunities such as online Health, Government, Economics and more.
Overall, summer should be appreciated for its entertaining and relaxing opportunities. However, summer should more often be recognized for its free time to figure out the rest of one’s life, to save enough money for the next school year or to put oneself ahead of their peers academically.
