Recently, Katseye released a single entitled “Pinky Up” and it has been everywhere. With a member on hiatus, is this song up to par with previous Katseye songs?
Katseye is an international girl group under the companies Hybe and Geffen. It was originally comprised of six members, Megan, Sophia, Manon, Yoonchae, Lara and Daniella. However, at the time that this song was released, the member Manon was on hiatus. Many fans were curious how a song without Manon would sound, or if they would even release music without her. Many fans were surprised to see that “Pinky Up” was released without Manon actively being in the group, and they also rerecorded the lines Manon was supposed to sing and had the member Daniella sing them instead. This made many fans uncomfortable and upset. They felt that it was not fair to Manon.
Aside from the drama surrounding the song, “Pinky Up” is actually a pretty fun song. It took awhile to adapt to the new sound, but it has grown to be really enjoyable to listen to. This song is perfect for summer with its fun beat and fresh lyrics. Although it is very different from the other music Katseye has released, it is perfect for the approaching summer.
The song aside, the dance has been popularized across the internet. The dance moves are simple enough that anyone can learn it, and hard enough to keep professional dancers interested in the moves. The choreography is a fun addition and helps bring traffic to the song.
In all, “Pinky Up”, despite being released under controversial circumstances, is an all-around fun song. The great beats, fresh lyrics and the fun dance moves, “Pinky Up” has the potential to be the song of the summer.
