WHAT IS A CHAI LATTE WITH OAT MILK?

Chai latte with oat milk is a delicious and creamy beverage that combines warm spices, coconut sugar, and rich oat milk for a comforting pick-me-up. It’s an easy-to-make treat that is dairy-free and vegan-friendly, making it perfect for any lifestyle. Whether you make your own spiced tea from scratch or start with chai spiced tea bags, this interesting drink will be sure to satisfy your cravings on a nice fall day!

 

INGREDIENTS IN CHAI LATTE WITH OAT MILK

  • Oat Milk
  • Black Tea
  • Coconut Sugar
  • Cinnamon Stick
  • Cloves
  • Coriander
  • Star Anise
  • Black Pepper
  • Ginger
  • Vanilla

 

HELPFUL KITCHEN TOOLS

  • Handheld frothing wand
  • Mortar and pestle
  • Small pot
  • strainer

 

HOW TO MAKE AN OAT MILK CHAI LATTE FROM SCRATCH

Crush Spices – Add whole dried spices to a mortar and pestle and gently crush them to make it easier to release their flavors.

Make Chai – Pour the spices into a small pot and top with water and fresh ginger slices. Set the kitchen timer for 10 minutes. Bring to a boil and then lower to a simmer and cover the pot for the remaining time. 

Steep Tea – Turn off the heat and add in tea. (Use tea bags or loose-leaf tea) Cover the pot with a lid and allow the tea to steep for 5-7 minutes.

Strain – Strain out tea and spices and stir in coconut sugar until fully incorporated

Warm Milk – Warm and froth oat milk. I typically heat my milk on the stovetop and use a handheld wand to froth milk. To perfectly foam milk, it should be heated to 150° F. You can use a kitchen thermometer to watch the temp. (PRO TIP: Milk with scorch quickly so it is best to watch it constantly. It heats quickly! ) You can also use an electric milk steamer if you have one.

Serving – Pour the chai tea into your serving cup. Top with milk and enjoy! Sprinkle and add a dash of ground cinnamon or brown sugar on top for garnish if desired.
