With sectionals approaching, the boys’ tennis team is prepared to put in time and effort. For many athletes, sectionals are the pinnacle of the season, and these games require long hours of work and dedication to be able to put their best foot forward. For the boys’ tennis team, consistency is a priority. After a long season, the boys’ tennis team is ready to face whatever challenge comes their way.
Despite all the work the boys put in throughout the regular season, they are still working to build a solid foundation for long-term success.
For senior Gabe Sletto, training is crucial for his performance. “I do a lot of focusing during practices on what they’re specifically asking us to do, if it’s drills or just gameplay,” Sletto said.
Attaining skills such as strategy and perseverance is important to players like Landon Smith and many others.
“I try to think about what I can do to attack my opponent’s weaknesses, and get to my strengths, and just to be the smarter player,” Smith said.
To some coaches, the days leading up to sectionals can be a stressful time, but to Coach Peretin, the time to prepare his athletes is now.
“We have to make sure our shots are in tune, but more importantly, that we’re mentally prepared for sectionals because it doesn’t matter who we play,” Peretin said. “We show up every day and just make sure that we perform our best.”
Despite the countless hours spent training, sectionals provide high school athletes a time to showcase their abilities and make a name for themselves in the world of competitive sports. This is an opportunity for many athletes, including tennis players. The boys’ tennis team is ready to compete in the name of growth and success.
