Mean Girls Musical: Hit or Miss?

Mean+Girls+Musical%3A+Hit+or+Miss%3F

Mean Girls was a highlight of 2004 with its humorous dialect and relatable content. However, the new rendition of Mean Girls the musical, does not live up to the original. While the new rendition does have the same humorousness and relatability, it just does not live up to the expectation that was set by the 2004 original movie.

The songs were subpar, and the singing was not the best. The best song was given to Avantika Vantanapu, who played the hilariously clueless Karen. Her song was “Sexy” sung during the Halloween party scene. But, even that song was not great.

I was pleased that there was some of the original content like “On Wednesdays, we wear pink”, “You can’t sit with us!”, and the Burn Book. There were also new more modern advances within the movie, with there being TikTok videos and iPhones.

Personally, my favorite characters were Janice Ians, played by Auli’i Cravalho, and Damian Hubbard, played by Jaquel Spivey. They both did amazing at capturing the friendship between the original characters, and their singing was not half bad.

All in all, the original Mean Girls will never be topped. In my humble opinion, I give this movie/musical a 5/10.

Do You Prefer the 2004 Original Mean Girls or the New 2024 Mean Girls Musical?
